SMOKEBOX / FLOWERBOX is a hybrid item to be used both as a bakhoor censer or vase.

​

This handcrafted product designed in white ceramic is retaining in a very humble and minimal way the traditional shape of this close to daily use functional object, combining and respecting the beauty of the highly aesthetic Al Sadu, once a traditional form of fabric making, hand-woven by the ancient Bedouin women, now in decline and in danger of being lost forever.

The object designed by Vairinhos is a blend of the traditional and the contemporary that carries a lot of values so dear to the local and surrounding communities of the UAE and abroad.

With this, the designer is encouraging not only the interest for the Al Sadu fabric but he also elevates the use of this material, appealing for the protection and preservation of the Al Sadu traditional weaving skills, contained since 2011 in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
